Review of GSM/UMTS handset Sony Ericsson K610i

Screenshot
“Sony Ericsson decided to bet on promoting line-up of interesting in terms of design models with high, but not maximal functionality. Sony Ericsson K600i can be considered as one of such phones, it should have been a mass solution for UMTS-networks but due to being overpriced at start it did not. Extreme price drop was answer to weak demand from consumers in both Europe and Russia. Reasons for such underrating of handset are due to incorrect positioning of this model by entering the market, potential audience was scared away by high price, lack of memory card support, which looked as essential part for UMTS phone. Unfortunately our prediction that in short terms this model will cost 250-275 USD were absolutely correct, this handset became a mass product, which in short-term perspective gave it good sales but later on it has vanished from the market as a player with big potential. One of miscalculations was positioning this model as stylish solution for those who are not requiring high functionality, but is looking for an interesting phone that will be used only for phone calls. Smaller popularity when compared to Nokia’s brand also affected negatively, it did not allow achieving noticeable results with this model. I’d like to make a note that operator’s sales due to sales of different color editions were higher, they can be considered successful.” Read this review at mobile-review.com

“Mio Technology has announced the release of its compact GPS-navigators Mio C710 and Mio C510E unveiled at CeBIT show in March. The C710 is a top solution with 24 preinstalled maps of Europe and an integrated TMC-receiver. The C510E has similar specs, it is equipped with the maps of the UK and main roads of Europe, but lacks a TMC-receiver. There is the support of TMC-functions, but you’ll need an external TMC-receiver.Both navigators are equipped with a 3.5” 65K colors touchscreen LCD, 400 MHz CPU, SiRFstarIII GPS-module. They can be used as Hands-free systems due to the support of Bluetooth interface and built-in mic. There is the support of MP3 music playback from SD cards. The system will notify the driver about the places the cameras are set or supposed to be set. Dimensions are small – 110x70x20 mm and weight 170 g.The approximate price for the C510E makes up 239.99 pounds ($445) and for the C710 – 359.99 pounds ($665). Creative unveils flash based Zen V (Plus)

“Creative, as per usual, has taken a calm, sleek approach with the new Zen V. Available in black and white exteriors, with your choice of green, blue, or orange accents (depending on the capacity you selected), the lightweight (43.5 grams) Zen V is quite compact at 2.6 x 1.5 x 0.5 inches. The 1.5-inch OLED display is a beaut, as well.Standard features include a reported 15 hours of battery life per charge, voice recorder, line-in encoder, album art support, and PIM functions. The FM radio touting Zen V Plus will tackle a good variety of both audio (MP3, WAV, WMA) and video (MPEG-4, WMV, DivX, etc.) formats, but the base level Zen V will only do audio. It appears both are capable of doing JPEG photo viewing, however.Unfortunately, when it comes to uploading your favourite tracks, you won’t be able to use the Zen V as a mass storage device (for music, anyways), instead having to resort to the Windows Media Player for those duties. Prices range from $120 (1GB) to $200 (4GB) for the Zen V, whereas the FM-playing Zen V Plus will go for between $130 and $230 for the same capacities. Look for the Zen V and Zen V Plus from Creative to drop either in July or August. ” via mobilemag.com

Interview with Motorola’s design director about new models

“At Motorola Design Tour 2006 event which was held in the end of last week, Ignacio Germade, design director and head of design centers of Motorola in UK and Singapore was kind enough to agree on interview with our web-site.MR. How materials used in phone’s construction affect process of production?IG. Very much. Earlier we were using only plastic on construction of our mobile phones, and usually there weren’t problems with its usage that would affect antenna’s work for example. Conformably you can imagine how such phone as RAZR that has metallic case, is much harder to produce. Before starting production you have to make sure that all possible tests were done, and now problems will occur regarding phone’s work. Hence in order to use a new material in production first you have to comprehensively test it. More than that in case manufacturer is introducing new paint into workflow, it should also be tested beforehand, and such factors as metal’s content in it should be noted.” Read this nice interview here:
