The Nokia 6 has been around for a while now, but it is now officially set for a worldwide release. To celebrate, HMD unveiled a special edition Arte Black color, which comes with 4GB of RAM and 64GB storage. The other colors come with 3GB and 32GB respectively. What we think is most appealing about the new Nokia trio is the attitude towards software. The phones come with pure Android 7.1 Nougat – the company didn’t touch a thing – and a commitment for timely updates. Effectively, this makes them the affordable Pixel phones Google never gave us (let’s not mention Android One). Read all here:
Sony Xperia XZ Premium hands on
The 4K HDR mobile screen is the first of its kind. To be clear, this is not the first 4K screen (that honor goes to the Xperia Z5 Premium). It is not the first HDR screen either (that was, briefly, the Note7). It’s the combination of the two that is novel. HDR content, however, is still hard to come by unless you use the subscription-based video streaming services by Netflix or Amazon. Read all here:
LG G6 hands on
The 3,300mAh battery inside the G6 packs 18% more capacity than the G5 before it – that can’t be bad. It’s sealed-in this time though, so you won’t be able to pop in a fully charged one for instant 0 to 100% battery. Oh yes, the snap-on Friends accessories will remain a one-off for the G5, at least for the time being – one of the not-so-successful experiments on the previous generation, or at least tough to market, if you ask us. All three will be available in Russia beginning early January and will be expanded to global markets in the coming weeks. As far as pricing goes, Samsung hasn’t announced anything related to the cost of these smartphones, but previous reports claim the Galaxy A5 (2017) will be available for $378, while the Galaxy A7 (2017) should hit the shelves for $424. We can safely assume that the Galaxy A3 (2017) will be much cheaper than the other two phones. Furthermore, it’s worth noting that each of these new smartphones will be available in four color options: Black Sky, Gold Sand, Blue Mist and Peach Cloud. More here:
Huawei Honor Magic unveiled, curvy body, dual cameras
Huawei unveiled the curviest phone ever – the Honor Magic. Every edge and every corner of the device is as smooth as a pebble, but what’s inside is cutting edge. The screen measures 5.09” – a tack sharp AMOLED with QHD resolution (577ppi) – and it sits below the curved glass. The flowing body of the phone measures 7.8mm thick and weighs 145g. It is available in Golden Black and Porcelain White. On the back is a dual 12MP camera (color + monochrome) with an f/2.2 aperture and large 1.4µm pixels, plus an 8MP selfie camera (f/2.0). Sony unveils Xperia XZ flagship and Xperia X Compact
“One of the highlights of the new Xperia XZ is its main 23MP camera with f/2.0 lens. It may look the same on specs, but Sony developed a new IMX300 sensor for the XZ and X Compact, which offers a new autofocus system. Now the camera uses color detection, phase detection, and laser-assist to measure distance correctly and track intelligently moving objects. This setup is called Triple Image Sensing and should provide always accurate focus for your images and videos.” Read more here:
HTC One A9s goes official, and no, it’s not an upgrade
“The One A9s keeps the main camera at 13MP, but it’s a new sensor with a narrower f/2.2 aperture, and it lacks optical image stabilization. The selfie snapper is another swap – instead of 4MP UltraPixel camera the One A9s relies on a regular 5MP 4:3 sensor with f/2.8 aperture and 1080p video recording. Besides the flagship-grade shell, the One A9s gets to keep the fingerprint scanner, it’s connectivity options, and even comes with a slightly bigger 2,300 mAh battery. The phone runs on Android Marshmallow with the latest HTC Sense launcher. There is no word on Nougat update just yet, but HTC likes to update its latest devices.” Read more here:
Lenovo K6, K6 Power, and K6 Note are official
“Amidst all the clamor around its high-profile announcements at IFA (you know, the Moto Z Play, Hasselblad MotoMod, Yogas), Lenovo has also thrown in a few affordable mid-rangers. The K6 family (no “Vibe” this time) consists of three models, the plain Lenovo K6, K6 Power, and K6 Note, and they share a lot of the same specs. It all starts with the Snapdragon 430 chipset that powers all three, and that means an octa-core CPU with 4 Cortex-A53 cores clocked up to 1.5GHz, and another 4 capped at 1.2GHz. The Lenovo K6 proper has 2GB of RAM and either 16GB or 32GB of storage, the Power comes in 2GB/16GB and 3GB/32GB flavors, while on the K6 Note internal storage is set at 32GB, but RAM is either 3GB or 4GB. All models take microSD cards for storage expansion” Read all here:
Samsung Galaxy Note7 unveiled with a 5.7 curved screen, IP68 rating
Riding on a wave of rumors and hype, the Samsung Galaxy Note7 has landed. The new flagship will help Samsung venture deeper into several market segments. The Note7 is tough. It’s the first Note to be waterproofed – IP68 rating certifies it for depths beyond 1m. The phone’s metal frame is sandwiched between two symmetrically curved sheets of Gorilla Glass 5. The new Blue Coral option paints the metal and accents in gold, the rest in blue. The Note7 has an amazing screen. Samsung kept to the 5.7″ Super AMOLED formula but curved it on both sides like an edge phone. It has QHD resolution, naturally, but is among the first mobile displays to feature HDR support – a feature borrowed from 4K TVs that allows the screen to show more colors and scenes with very high contrast.
