Six-camera Samsung S10+ version

Samsung’s highly anticipated Galaxy S10 lineup has been leaking like crazy lately, foreshadowing a pretty radical reimagining of an already stunning “Infinity Display” design, as well as a few big camera upgrades.

The latest high-quality renders claiming to reveal the most important details about the Galaxy S10, S10+, and S10 Lite come from reputable case maker Olixar (via equally reputable accessories retailer Mobile Fun), largely backing what Olixar rival Ghostek and serial leaker @OnLeaks recently divulged.

Specifically, it’s looking increasingly likely that the Galaxy S10 and S10 Lite will share a small, circular display hole accommodating a single selfie shooter, while the Galaxy S10 Plus goes with a larger, pill-shaped screen gap no doubt housing two front-facing cameras.

ZTE nubia X unveiled with two screens and two fingerprint readers

The nubia X doesn’t have a front-facing camera, as you can easily snap selfies with the dual setup on the back using the secondary screen. You can expect some pretty sharp stills from the 16MP main lens with f/1.8 aperture while the 24MP unit boasts a brighter f/1.7 lens. The cameras are aided by AI scene recognition feature and PDAF phase detection autofocus. The nubia X comes with a 3,800 mAh battery that promises to last at least a full day of usage and we have Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box with nubia’s UI 6.0.2 on top. Interestingly, the phone also has two fingerprint readers positioned on the two sides. Depending on which one you use, you can unlock either screen. Lenovo Z5 Pro slider announced, claims highest screen-to-body ratio yet

The catch is that the Lenovo Z5 Pro is powered by a Snapdragon 710 instead of the top of the line Snapdragon 845 but the rest of it is mostly flagship stuff.
The phone is built around a full-screen display with no unsightly notches. It’s 6.39″ in diagonal and has FHD+ (1080 x 2340) resolution. Lenovo says it’s covering more than 95% of the front panel and while that’s certainly optimistic (makers like to exclude the frame as part of the body) the direct comparison to the Mix 3 showed slimmer bezels. Honor Magic 2 slider arrives with six cameras and UD fingerprint scanner

The front setup is also unorthodox – the 16 MP selfie shooter is accompanied by two 2 MP depth sensors. There is also an IR face scanner for 3D Face Unlock through a depth-sensing bionic lens. If you don’t want to swipe the phone and reveal this whole setup, there is an under-display fingerprint scanner for all the security you might need.Huawei was always about fast-charging, and the Magic 2 comes with 40W capabilities (10V/4A). It is called Magic Charge, and Honor claims it can charge 50% of the 3,400 mAh power cell in 15 minutes and reach 85% in the next quarter hour. ‘Nine in ten’ Android apps send data to Google

A new study has revealed that 90 per cent of all Android applications share personal data to Google, raising questions about the volume of information collected by ad-supported software and the ability for tech giants to create profiles of individuals.

Researchers at Oxford University looked at almost one million Android apps available on the Google Play store and found the median app shared user data with ten third parties and a fifth shared it with more than 20.

The researchers told the Financial Times that the popularity of ‘freemium’ applications supported by advertising and the rise of vast advertising networks meant that many people, and often app developers themselves, are unaware of the scale of this data harvesting.

Samsung Galaxy Note 9: a dull launch, too expensive… but that’s a good thing

Watching the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 launch was tough. After watching a decade of phone launches waxing and waning in bombast, the new Note launch felt like it was running on fumes a little bit.

Let’s skip past the lack of upgrades on the new Galaxy Watch, the ‘and-me’ smart speaker and the decision to have ‘Mr Doodle’ on stage drawing with a product launched a few weeks ago, and jump straight to the Note 9.
There were a lot of marketing words spoken about the handset, about how it was ‘inspiring’, ‘removed borders and interruptions’ and basically worked with you… a lot of words that don’t really tell us much, meaning that most of us were left wondering ‘what’s actually new here?’.

That’s the issue – smartphones are now so capable that there’s not really that much further to go, so unless a brand materially changes the design and ways of using the phone (as Apple did with the iPhone X) then there’s not much to really excite consumers. more here

Review of Huawei P20 Pro. They simply nailed it with the P20 Pro.

It’s not often that we use so many superlatives in a review, but Huawei simply nailed it with the P20 Pro. The phone, as a whole, is a real work of art, undoubtedly Huawei’s best phone ever, arguably the best phone of 2018 yet.

The Huawei P10 of early 2017 was (still is) a super capable phone that was highly regarded among our editors here at Pocketnow. The Huawei Mate 10 and Mate 10 Pro came along late last year to convince us that the company is meaning serious business. We all expected the Huawei P20 and P20 Pro to be some sort of point-iteration, and we’re glad we were wrong! Review

Oppo Find X flagship with a pop-up mechanism for the cameras.

Oppo introduced the unique Find X flagship with a pop-up mechanism for the cameras and screen to body ratio of over 92%. The global launch took place in Paris and now the company is doing a local Chinese event on June 29.

The Oppo Find X will be introduced in the industrial park of Beijing at the famous 79 Tank at 751 D-Park, famously used for massive launches by many smartphone manufacturers. The launch on Friday will show the device to the Chinese audience and some sources suggest there might be a new variant with different colors and eventually different prices.

The Oppo Find X will arrive in August on major European markets like Italy, Spain, France, and the Netherlands. Actual availability dates were not unveiled in Paris, but the Chinese launch should come with pre-order and availability dates. Source (in Chinese)
