The Linux based Motorola A780 PDA Phone Review
“When you flip the phone open, you are presented with the PDA functionality. The A780 is built upon the 2.4.20 Linux kernel and then from the ground up using the Qt toolkit. Its closed-source graphical framework is called EZX. In the main display you get 4 big icons (application list, contact list, SMS/MMS client and a virtual numeric pad to make a call), a service line similar to the one described above, business meetings list and 4 shortcuts to apps (ring profiles, Opera, Real Player, Picsel Viewer and Bluetooth). There are a number of PDA-like applications included in the phone by default, some of these include a file manager (which I like very much), tasks, notes (can read .txt files too), alarms, clock application monitoring up to 3 timezones, calendar that supports events, pop3/imap email (no support for Gmail though), a calculator, the Opera browser, Real Player (supports mp4, 3gp and rm videos), camera and video capture, a drawing application, a voice recorder (in AMR format), Wireless Village IM, SyncML, Call history, VPN client, an STK and modem utility, 3 java games, a Chinese-to-english dictionary and of course, the system’s settings. In these settings you will find preference panels for customizing your ringtomes (you can set different ringtones for IM, phone calls, SMS etc), your wallpaper, the color theme, text size, language, voice command (no training required, but the feature didn’t prove very reliable), screen backlighting, GPRS settings, power management, keylock settings, and input setup (choose between two Asian languages or English virtual keyboards, a numeric keypad, or handwriting). Both the handwriting and virtual keyboard has predictive text support which we found sufficient. There is no way that even a world champion in T9/iTap will be able to type faster than you could with the A780’s virtual keyboard.” This this nice review here:
The top 10 selling PDAs/Smart phones in March 2006
“The Swedish manufacturer of carrying cases for portable electronics, Krusell, has released their “Top 10”-list for March 2006. The list is based upon the number of pieces of model specific PDA- and smart phone cases that have been ordered from Krusell during March 2006. Krusell’s list is unique due to the fact that their sales of cases reflect the sales of PDAs and smart phones on six continents and in more than 50 countries around the globe.1. After its release in Europe, Palm Treo 700 will probably secure its number one position. – By representing four out of the top-five selling units, HTC remarkably dominates this month’s list, comments Ulf Sandberg, Managing Director at Krusell International AB. Music handsets comparison – which one to choose?
“For example model Nokia 6230i may be used for playing back music, though until the very recent times it had lacked a 3.5 mm jack with Fast Port. Apart from that, the 6230i isn’t positioned as a music solution. Now you have a hint about which devices are excluded from this review – such handsets often appear quite attractive for consumers, who require music capabilities only as an addition, rather than a key function. Therefore here we are going to cover devices, initially aimed at the other part of the audience. Theoretically, that is the reason why Siemens S75 and similar solutions left the field, further more, their users still have problems with playing back MP3 files on early firmware versions. Nonetheless, in order to show what the difference between high profile music phones and solutions of that kind is, we decided to let S75 in. Unfortunately most of Samsung models don’t hold a 3.5 mm jack on their casings, and thus are not featured in this very issue, though taking into consideration their similarity, we felt we needed to include one – Samsung X700.” Read this nice comparison at mobile-review.com
Pioneer GPS unit sports Bluetooth and runs on Windows CE
“The AVIC-S1 is said to be one of the first portable GPS receivers from Pioneer that features built-in Bluetooth, although we’ve already seen the technology is so many units elsewhere already. That doesn’t mean you should just scoff and ignore this device, however, because it has a couple of legs up on some competition. I’m not sure if it’s an advantage or a detriment – I’ll leave that up to you to decide – but the AVIC-S1 runs on Windows CE, so at the very least, it should provide for a fairly familiar environment for most of us PC users. The display is a vibrant 320 x 240 touchscreen with 3D maps, and you’ll be sure to get excellent accuracy thanks to the SiRF III chip found here. The 2GB of flash memory will come loaded up with European maps, and the AVIC-S1 comes in your choice of 17 different languages.Pioneer seems to be making this a Europe-only release, at least for the time being, but it is a “portable” model that can be switched between vehicles without too much hassle. ” via mobilemag.com

Pioneer Inno XM2go Orbitcast Review
“The actual feel of the unit is very comfortable as well. Not too big and not too small. Weight is comfortable at 4.5 ounces. The buttons are laid out very ergonomically – no more thumb cramps as you’re trying to scroll through channels. Everything is handled through the XM Button and Arrow buttons. Those migrating over from previous XM2go units may need to reprogram themselves a little (volume is on the side now) – but those who are used to the iPod’s click-wheel will be right at home.” Read this nece review here:
