Samsung UMPC heading stateside next month
“We caught our first glimpse of the Samsung Q1 Ultra Mobile PC back in March at the CeBIT trade show in Hanover, Germany. Since then, news has been pouring in fast and furious regarding the Origami Project device. Other manufacturers are making UMPCs as well, but the Samsung device is garnering the most media attention (for whatever reason). Today is no different.Word is that Samsung is planning a May 1 launch for its Q1 UMPC in the American market, to be kicked off by an event in San Francisco. While we originally hoped that the tablet PC-esque gadget based on the Microsoft Origami concept would be priced in the $500 range, but if recent reports are any indication, it may be some time before you can get your hands on the Samsung UMPC for that price. In Korea, the Q1 will be retailing for $2000 with bundled accessories.Look for an official announcement from Samsung regarding an American price point in the coming days.” via mobilemag.com

ETen G500 GPS smartphone shows up on FCC
“We first heard about the G500 GPS phone from E-Ten back in January, but now there is a vague possibility that the hot Pocket PC phone could be heading our way, because it has made an official appearance on the FCC’s website.Running on Windows Mobile 5.0, this quad-band GSM phone comes with a 65k color TFT touchscreen display, Bluetooth connectivity, 128 MB flash ROM, 64MB SD RAM, and is powered by a S3C2400 400MHz Samsung processor. Of course, most notable of its feature list is the SiRFStarIII GPS receiver. We have no way of knowing when (and if) this will ever come to the American (or Canadian, fingers crossed) market, nor do we know how much it will cost should that ever happen. But being on the FCC site is a good indicator that they are talking to someone over here” via mobilemag.com
UMPC contender with QWERTY from Averatec

The device is likely to be equipped with a 5-inch color SXGA (1280 x 1024 pixels) TFT screen and a slide-out QWERTY thumb keypad. It will be powered by a Celeron M processor and have a 30 GB microdrive. Other features will include integrated Bluetooth and Wi-Fi (802.11g), a pair of USB 2.0 ports, and a 2-megapixel camera.According to rumor, the Averatec AHI will be available by the end of this year.
